Why is this business which will rename nameless because they still have my car lol, telling me it would be an estimate of 800 dollars. Labor can't be that much can it? The LT1, I know the valve gasket is about an hour of labor but I don't know how to do it. Are they low balling me? I know that the intake manifold is a little harder to get to. But damn! Pontiac . How to Remove a Hub CapHub caps are designed to make the look of your tires more appealing and to hide the nuts that secure the tire to the wheel hub. Removing a hub cap is a fairly simple job that can be done in just a few minutes. The hub cap is attached to the rim with metal clips on the inside of the cap that snap into place when the hub cap is pressed onto the rim by hand. Remove the hub cap yourself to save time and money. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Tire tool Step by Step : 1 Locate the gap between the hub cap and the tire rim and place the flat side of the tire tool in between the gap. 2 Wedge the tire tool farther into the gap and pry it back with the tire tool to separate the hub cap from the rim. 3 Move around the hub cap, repeating step 2 until the hub cap comes loose from the rim. Remove it by hand. ResourcesHub Caps: Hub Cap Information and Advice
Pontiac . How to Recurve a Ford DistributorWhen discussing how to recurve a Ford distributor, it is good to understand the dynamics of performing such a modification. Recurving the distributor is a method of changing the timing curve. This is the timing of the spark plug firing at different RPM levels. The desired result is an increase in horsepower and acceleration with an accepted sacrifice in fuel economy and a need for higher octane fuel. Difficulty:Challenging Instructions Things You'll Need Timing light Advance cure kit Needle-nose pliers Phillips head screwdriver Step by Step : 1 Remove the distributor cap with a Phillips head screwdriver. Remove the rotor. Open the kit and lay out the different weights and springs along with the bushings. There are two of everything so match them up by the shape and color of springs. Open the spec sheet that comes with the kit. On the sheet it will state the specific colors of the springs and the RPM range for each. It will also specify which centrifugal weights to use for the proper speed of advance. The lighter the spring pressure, the faster the advance will increase, and the lighter the weights, the same result. Pick the ones that coincide with the range desired. 2 Detach the existing springs with a pair of needle-nose pliers. Lift off the current weights. Lift or pry off the two weight bushings located on the mounting studs. Install the new bushings to accommodate the new weights. 3 Install the new weights over the bushings on the weight mounting posts. Install the new springs of choice on the spring post and weight. Install the rotor and distributor cap and tighten them with the screwdriver. 4 Test-drive the vehicle. If the vehicle bogs down, check the timing for total advance. Total advance should be 34 to 36 degrees. If the total advance is too low or too high, loosen the distributor and rotate it to adjust the total advance then tighten it. Allow the engine to idle and check the advance--it should be around 16 degrees. Snap the throttle linkage while watching the timing light. The advance should immediately increase when the engine comes off idle. The faster the increase, the better. If the advance drags a little before jumping to full advance, try lighter springs. Tips & Warnings Plan the proper approach to the recurve to take maximum advantage of the timing advance. Look at the spec sheet on the current camshaft. If it is not available, it can be found online under factory specifications at the manufacturer's website. The pertinent information relative to this upgrade is the amount of lift, the amount of degrees of duration and what the effective RPM range is. For instance, a Ford Mustang 5.0 would have .520 lift at 264 degrees of duration and have an effective range from 1,500 to 5,500 RPM. The recurve should raise the effective RPM to between 2,200 and 6,500 RPM with an increase in torque at a slightly higher peak RPM. This example depends on the amount of build on the engine and the final gear ratio. However, this is about all that a stock 5.0 is going to tolerate. Horsepower and resulting torque are a product of compression, RPM, the CFM of the heads, the quality and strength of the valve springs and so on. A stock 5.0 will peak in torque around 4,600 RPM. The valve will float above 6,500 RPM, significantly dropping the torque and horsepower levels. A larger camshaft, better heads, exhaust and intake will increase these parameters accordingly. Adapt the recurve to the advantage of the current equipment, whatever it may be. *Disconnect the little wire that runs from the end of the solenoid to whatever it leads to. This causes your idle speed to drop. 3. Adjust your idle speed screw or idle air bleed screw, following the instructions in the preceding section. Your owner's manual usually indicates that this last adjustment is at a lower number of rpm. This is called shutdown idle speed, and it is the reduced speed that allows your engine to stop running when you shut off the ignition. 633

Checking and adjusting thefuet/air mixture The easy way to check whether the fuel/air mixture is too rich or too lean is to run your finger around the end of the inside of your tailpipe (when the engine is cold, please). If a black, sooty deposit comes off on your finger, your fuel/air mixture is too rich. If the deposit is greasy or shiny, you're burning oil. A vehicle that's running too lean runs poorly only when it's cold. In either case, you'll find instructions for adjusting the idle mixture screw(s) and the choke in the following sections. If the adjustments you make don't help, you'll have to seek professional service. .Chapter 13: Keeping Your Fuel System in Tune OQ 1 Adjusting the idle mixture screw (s) If checking your fuel/air mixture shows that it needs to be adjusted or your engine isn't idling smoothly now that you've corrected its idle speed, the idle mixture screw (or screws) on your carburetor can do just that. Peugeot 505. * Typical idle mixture adjustment adjustment screws screws. Because of federal and state smog standards, on vehicles built since 1981 idle mixture screws have been covered by metal plugs or by plastic limiter caps, which either don't allow you to adjust the screws or limit adjustments to around a quarter of a turn. These limitations were added to keep you from adjusting for a too-rich mixture that would result in an increase in the Pontiac . The idle mixture screws were preset at the factory and are probably set properly. If you have prob lems that nothing else seems to cure, have a mechanic take a look.
